Somalia: Government signs agreement with moderate Islamists

MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—Somali government has signed an agreement with Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a moderate Islamist group in Addis Ababa.

Delegates from the two sides have been meeting in Addis Ababa from the past two weeks and agreed about many issues including power sharing.

Sharif Hassan Osman Matan Sheikh Aden deputy prime minister and finance minister was leading the delegates from the government while Moallim Mohamud Sheikh Hassan was leading the delegates from Ahlu Sunna Walajma’a.

Somalia’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke confirmed the meeting between Ahlu Sunna Walajama’a and the government in Addis Ababab and added that it was important for the reconciliation.

Mr. Sharmarke said the government was welcoming with open hands any group that is ready to talk with the government.
