Somalia: Suicide bomber was from al Shabaab town

NAIROBI (Mareeg)—The suicide bomber who blew himself up at graduation ceremony in Mogadishu and killed 25 people including ministers, students, doctors, and journalists were from Marka, a stronghold town of al Shabaab in southern Somalia.

Hassan Haji, the father of the alleged suicide bomber said his son was based in Marka and went from Denmark to Somalia to learn the Islamic religion last year.

The Speaker of the Somali Parliament Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur and the Information Minister Dahir Mohamud Gelle said the bomber was from Denmark.

His father says his son was invited in the ceremony by his friend and denied that he bombed the graduation ceremony.

“My son used to contact me regularly. He and his pregnant wife were staying in Marka,” he said.

Analysts say most Somali youth from overseas in the towns under al Shabaab control are supporters or fighters of the group since they returned back to the country after being taken their ideology.
